Hi Raven,

1.
When exactly do you get the error 80080005?
2.
Are you using using Windows Backup?
3.
Do you get the error when installing Windows Update?
4.
What exactly happens when you try to create a restore point or run a back up?

Method 1:
Try performing SFC (System File Checker) scan on the computer.
Refer the following link to do the same:
How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929833

Method 2:
Step 1:
Check if the Volume Shadow Copy service is running on your computer.
Try these steps to check for the same:
a.
Click ‘Start’, type ‘services.msc’ and hit
Enter.
b.
Locate “Volume Shadow Copy” and check if the service is started.
c.
If not ‘Start’ the service.
Step 2:
Volume Shadow Copy service and Windows backup service are the two essential services required to perform Windows backup.
Apart from these essential services, there are dependency services such as Remote Procedure Callwhich is required to run Windows
backup utility.
Go to services.msc to check if these services as well as their dependency services are running.
To open services.msc:
a.
Go to start and type services.msc
in the search field.
b.
Locate the two services.
c.
Right-Click on the service one at a time.
d.
Select properties.
e.
Go to Dependencies Tab.

f.
Note the dependency services.
g.
Make sure they’re also running.

Method 3:
Try to run the backup and create a restore point by putting the computer in a clean boot state.
Putting your system in clean boot state helps in identifying if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.
Refer the following Microsoft KB article for more information on how to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7:

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After troubleshooting, make sure to put the computer to start as usual as mentioned in Step 7 in the above KB article.

Method 4: You may open Windows update troubleshooter to see if it fixes the issue.
Refer the following link to do the same:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Windows-Update-troubleshooter

 Hope this helps!
